The film explores how the Israeli government, successive US governments and the pro-Israeli lobby in the USA have joined forces to shape American media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Israel’s favour.  It provides a sweeping analysis of Israel’s decades-long battle for the hearts, minds and tax dollars of the American people in the face of widening international condemnation of its repressive policies.

 Meeting the real Palestinians

Friday, 20th January 2017

7.30pm

St Mary’s Church Hall, Frensham

Following a 3 week trip in November and December we bring news from Israel’s Bedouin in the Negev, and from Palestinians in the South Hebron Hills.

Khalil Alamour* and Hamed Qawasmeh* provided introductions for us to many Israelis and Palestinians working for a better future for their people.

Please join us for an update presentation from the region, telling of the people we met, the motivation of young people to make the most of their chances and the inspirational activists who risk social exclusion, arrest and imprisonment.

From ECCP:

2016 has been another year of mobilising and lobbying against EU complicity with Israeli violations of international law and human rights, in particular through its Research and Development funding cycle Horizon2020. The European Commission feels the heat of pressure to stop European funding to Israel under HORIZON2020, yet more action is needed, especially in view of the 2017 review of the funding cycle. The greatest achievement has been the withdrawal of Portugal from the LAWTRAIN project, a Horizon2020 funded effort to link Israeli police and related institutions with European governments and law enforcement forces. It was the first time a government withdrew from an EU funded project after civil society pressure in support of Palestinian rights. This victory has galvanised more campaigns and efforts. Let’s make the 2017 review of Horizon2020 a step in the right direction by pressuring the EU to exclude Israeli military and security companies and institutions linked to Israel’s military and prison complex from receiving EU tax money through Horizon2020!

Please sign our petition calling upon Theresa May to launch an immediate public inquiry to determine the extent of improper interference in UK democratic politics by the Israeli Embassy and to demand from the Israeli government that it is brought to an end.

As a Jew whose grandmother died in a Nazi death camp, one who grew up among holocaust survivors whose lives had been completely
disrupted by anti-Semitism in Europe, I have a deep fear of anti-Semitism. However, I have no fear of the BDS movement and want to explain
why.
To understand BDS, one need only look at the way that Arabs in historical Palestine are being treated. If you look with open eyes, you will
quickly see that something is very wrong.
-You will see law-abiding Arab families living in constant fear of police, soldiers, and heavily armed civilians who treat them as enemies rather
than human beings who are entitled to the rights that we are all supposed to enjoy.
-You will see youth growing up without hope and in fear of arbitrary treatment by heavily armed forces that are ready to kill on the slightest
pretext.
-You will see hotel doormen reach for a weapon when a Palestinian arrives to pick up a guest.
