Traditional Handicrafts Co-operative

Saturday 9 March 2019, 3.00pm
St Mary’s Church, The Street, Frensham GU10 3EA

The Women of Hebron co-operative provides work for women in the Idna district of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.  The women produce beautiful hand-woven and hand-embroidered traditional rugs, cushion covers and other handicrafts, which they sell in the Old Hebron market.  The initiative creates work and hope for some 120 women and their families in a city which is frequently at the centre of tensions and violence.
Laila Hasan, co-founder of the co-operative, will be speaking about their work and achievements as a form of grassroots, peaceful resistance to occupation and oppression.  There will also be the opportunity to purchase some of these lovely artisan products.

The Experience of Palestinians Under Occupation

All are welcome to an open meeting to be held by The West Surrey Palestine Solidarity Campaign and
The Justice & Peace Group of the Catholic Parish of Guildford.

Tim and Mayonne Coldicott describe what they have discovered about the state of mental health of Palestinians
coping with the effects of occupation on their children, their family cohesion and communal identity.

They invite us to consider how civil society in Britain can support the human rights of all peoples of Palestine.

St Pius Church
Laustan Close, Merrow
7.30pm Friday February 15

In 2015, Khalil Alamour, a teacher, a lawyer and co-director of the Alhuquq Center for Human Rights, spoke to us in Frensham about the plight of the Israeli Bedouin in the Negev.  A relentless activist for justice, he is currently on a speaking tour in the UK arranged jointly between ICAHD UK and Amnesty International.  Due to an unexpected change in his schedule, he will be staying in Frensham next week.

We plan, at short notice, to offer him the opportunity to update us on the situation in Umm al Hiran, the Bedouin village he told us about 3 years ago.  Founded in 1956 and slated for demolition to make way for a Jewish-only town, to be called ‘Hiran’, it is one of a number of villages under threat.

We have heard recently the terrible news from Gaza.  But others in the region have stories to tell, and the media is barely taking notice.  Protests without violence apparently don’t make exciting headlines.

Please come and join us at 7 for 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church Hall this coming Wednesday 27th June, and hear what he has to say about developments in Israel.

Join us for the latest about the occupied Palestinian Territories

Palestinians have lived under military occupation for more than 50 years. Under International Law, Israel is responsible for the health, education and economic welfare of the occupied people. It not only fails to deliver, it destroys Palestinian attempts to fill the gap.

HIRN refuses to accept this, and energetically responds to calls for help from villages and individuals throughout the South Hebron Hills and the Bethlehem Governorate. With a local network of supporters and internationals, an extraordinary range of projects are undertaken – see:

Following the success of our concert with Palestinian musicians last June, we are delighted to announce that we shall be welcoming some further Palestinian musicians to Surrey on Friday 22 June.  They are a group of very talented young musicians who have all won places at prestigious music schools in the UK.  The concert is organised in conjunction with Palmusic, which promotes opportunities for gifted young Palestinian musicians to study in the UK and all proceeds from the concert will enable their continued study.
